It’s natural to expect to be served a variety of gourmet dishes when you are on a luxury cruise that has Michelin star chef Atul Kochhar heading the kitchen. But the seasoned chef had to crash a few expectations on a cruise to Antarctica last year.

“We had gourmet dishes also, obviously, but there were times when I had to tell people to trust me on the importance of comfort food. As we neared the destination, we served piping hot samosas and khichdi. I think initially guests were wondering why the menu took such a turn, but they lapped it all up and thanked me for it later,” says Kochhar, who came back with happy memories of his time in Antarctica. “Imagine witnessing hordes of penguins, seals and whales against the backdrop of snow and gigantic mountains. It was beauty at its best,” says Kochhar.
