Much like his art work has evolved over the decades, artist Paresh Maity’s style has also developed with comfort, colour and of course, aesthetics being the foundation blocks in his wardrobe.
Spanning nearly four decades of his artistic oeuvre, Paresh Maity has created and explored various mediums in art and this exhibition includes never before seen pieces including from the artist’s personal collection,and the famed sculpture, ‘The Force’, made of 8500 bells, displayed for the first time in Mumbai. Vibrant colours, bold statements, a touch of whimsy and a whole lot of character.

ET Panache caught up with the artists at his new exhibition Infinite Light at Art Musings, Mumbai to talk about fashion, and wearing his art on his sleeve.
My style: Over the decades, my style has evolved. I have moved to a style sense with minimum work and maximum expression following the mantra, less is more.
The essentials: When it comes to clothes everyone should have, the number one for me is comfortable nightwear. My must-haves also include very colourful t-shirts as I’m a man of colour, comfortable smart-looking shoes, comfortable trousers and jackets with numerous pockets. It is essential for every man to own an all-time comfortable jacket with pockets and a pair of nice trousers to go with it. Feather in his cap: I have so many hats and caps that I have lost count. My personal favourites are berets and I love carrying various kinds of hats collected from different parts of the world where I travel.

Own it: My most prized possession in my wardrobe are the clothes that are designed by me. I am not very brand conscious but I like anything that is aesthetically good, comfortable and Indian, which is an essential part of my identity.
Colour code: I love all colours, my colour palette for dressing depends on the season - winter, spring, summer, monsoon and time of the day or night. I believe in dressing according to season. When it comes to accessories, I believe it should be chic, colourful and unique on its own which suits the personality of the person wearing them.Corporate wear tends to be very repetitive and predictable. A dash of colour – be it in the form of ties, handkerchiefs or any accessories can differentiate between everybody’s sense of style and break the monotony.
You make a style statement when you…connect to your roots, identity and aesthetics
Style guide: I admire when somebody’s style is genuine, original and not derivative. Your style must carry your identity without copying anybody. Style is a very personal thing. I would just suggest everyone to be original when styling themselves, My advice: Keep it simple, chic and comfortable.
