When Farah Khan revealed why she doesn’t work with husband Shirish Kunder: ‘It’s very demeaning…’

Despite being married for more than two decades, Farah Khan has rarely collaborated with her husband Shirish Kunder professionally. In an old interview with ZEE Cafe, the ‘Om Shanti Om’ director revealed the reason. She revealed she once worked on his songs as a choreographer, but people often deferred to her.

“When I used to choreograph his songs, people used to automatically look at me after the shot got over. It’s very demeaning to a director. So, we resolved that and decided not to work with each other. You do your own thing,” she reminisced.

Despite being in the showbiz, Kunder has not seen the stratospheric success of his wife. Both of his movies - Joker and Jaan-E-Mann failed to make an impact at the box-office.


Farah broke the silence if his lack of success ever became a factor in their marriage. She said that while the ‘Abhimaan’ factor (referring to the iconic movie where Amitabh Bachchan’s character developes a resentment against his wife after she becomes a more popular singer than him) did affect them in the early days of their marriage, now they are happy.

“We’ve survived 12 years of extreme failures and extreme successes. So, I give him a lot of credit because he has to bear the brunt of being married to me,” she explained.

Shirish’s last movie, Mrs Serial Killer (2020), starring Jacqueline Fernandez, was a critical and commercial failure.

Farah took a hiatus after her last film, ‘ Tees Maar Khan’ (2010), and later became a popular food and lifestyle vlogger on YouTube. She often shares cooking videos along with her chef, Dilip.
