When ex-CJI T S Thakur and successor J S Khehar talked about shirts and jackets
The farewell function held for outgoing Chief Justice of India T S Thakur in the capital last week was a crowded affair. His successor, J S Khehar recalled his first meeting with Thakur, almost eight years back in November 2008. Thakur seems to have made a lasting impression on his peer, in a “khadistarched half-sleeved shirt, dressed casually but elegantly“.

Another time the two met, Thakur was wearing a tweed jacket. At that point, Khehar told him that his father had a similar jacket. He enquired, “Is it a Harris?“ To which Thakur replied in the affirmative, adding, “Can you imagine I got a Harris in New York?

I was at the airport and there was a great sale, buy one, get one free. So I got two“.

And in case one is wondering why the surprise at finding a Harris Tweed in New York, it may help to know this Harris Tweed fabric is protected by an Act of Parliament in United Kingdom. Apparently, only the craftsmen and women of the out er Hebrides, Scotland know how to make it and, by law are allowed to do so.
