When Dhurandhar star Akshaye Khanna’s father Vinod Khanna’s second wife broke silence on their equation: ‘I did not try…’

Akshaye Khanna has once again captured public attention, riding high on the overwhelming appreciation for his commanding portrayal of Rehman Dakait in the blockbuster Dhurandhar. His intense screen presence and layered performance have not only reinforced his reputation as a powerhouse actor but have also triggered renewed curiosity about his past. As a result, old interviews, archived videos, and conversations around his personal life have resurfaced and begun circulating widely.

Akshaye is the son of the late Vinod Khanna, one of Hindi cinema’s most celebrated stars. Vinod married Geetanjali Khanna in 1971, and the union brought two sons into the world—Rahul and Akshaye—both of whom later carved careers in the film industry. However, the marriage ended in separation in 1985, largely due to Vinod Khanna’s growing spiritual immersion and association with mystic Osho. Years later, in 1990, Vinod tied the knot with Kavita Khanna, with whom he had two daughters, Sakshi and Shraddha.

In a recent interview with Loveena Tandon, Kavita Khanna reflected on her bond with Vinod’s sons from his earlier marriage, offering rare insight into a blended family dynamic that was handled with maturity and emotional clarity. She explained that while Rahul and Akshaye were naturally part of her life because they were Vinod’s children, she consciously chose not to step into a maternal role. According to her, they already had a devoted and capable mother, and she felt no need to replace or replicate that bond.


“They were mine because they were Vinod’s children. They had to be mine, but they were not mine. I did not try to be a mother to them because they had the best mother they could have.." she said.

Kavita also spoke about her rapport with Geetanjali Khanna, describing it as respectful, calm, and free of bitterness. She emphasized that there was never any hostility or tension between them, only clearly defined boundaries and mutual regard. She dismissed the tendency to oversimplify relationships by labeling one person as wronged and another as villainous, calling such narratives unrealistic. In her view, adulthood demands responsibility, acceptance of one’s decisions, and the grace to move forward without resentment.
Meanwhile, Dhurandhar continues its unstoppable run at the box office.

According to figures reported by trade tracker Sacnilk, the film has already crossed the Rs 480 crore mark in domestic collections, cementing its status as one of the biggest commercial successes in recent times.
