Oh my! Why? The insects seem to be making news everywhere.
Really? How?
You have heard about the diplomats in US embassy in Cuba’s Havana who were hearing strange noises in late 2016 and falling ill?
Yes, of course. There were so many conspiracy theories about sonic attacks. The sound was recorded. A scientific paper published in the first week of January has claimed that it sounds like the mating call of a male Indies short-tailed cricket.

Male, did you say? Yes. But before you go off about love-crazy males, let me tell you what else has happened.
There’s more? Swarms of cricket descended on the holy city of Mecca in Saudi Arabia last week. Some schools had to be closed. The Grand Mosque of Mecca saw a large swarm.

The authorities are conducting city-wide fumigation to rid the place of crickets.
But how could it happen? One theory is that some people cultivate crickets, and a large bunch must have escaped.

Crickets are cultivated? Someone actually breeds them? Yes. They are good food material for some pets, some breeds of birds and lizards. You can actually buy crickets on Amazon.
So, a shipment of crickets for the lizard arrived via FedEx today. It was my first time ordering bulk crickets off… https://t.co/E9bwzRQa6n

Who would do something like that? Well, in late December 2018, a journalist wrote about his experience of buying crickets online for his pet lizard. It was a mini-disaster.
It should be. It went somewhat like this. He opened the packing, didn’t close it well afterwards, and left home, only to get urgent calls from home that crickets have taken over the house.
Finally got video of her eating one, if you’re wondering what that looks like https://t.co/LNzfaWrE5S

A horror story, no? The term cricket crazy can get a new meaning now.

While the wasps didn’t get in this time, a Malaysia Airlines flight had to return to Brisbane because of a pre-flight inspection failure that left the plastic covers on, causing an in-flight emergency.

A snake nearly made it on a plane. This is not the brief of a horror movie but something that happened at Miami International Airport in July this year.
The Transportation Security Administration discovered a large python coiled inside an external hard drive tucked away discreetly inside a piece of luggage.
The live snake and its sneaky owner were both not allowed on their Barbados-bound flight. TSA put up a post and cheekily added, “Conversationally, this python had not gone full monty. It was wearing a nylon stocking.”
