Reputations are made to measure — a simple hushed word about a missed or delayed payment can result in the dominoes falling. And this beleaguered Indian businessman has, well, been left to pick up the threads.

Turns out, he has lost face with his super-niche, bespoke south Mumbai boutique, where he would order several suits from. Such was his value, that the boutique — like other institutions — offered him the longest imaginable credit line. His assistant would drop by every few months and settle the six-figure dues. Needless to say, not any more.

The orders have long stopped coming and the credit line is no longer an option. Clearly a stitch in time is only during good times
