WhatsApp will now alert ‘replies’ and ‘mentions’ in group chats via notifications

WhatsApp is gearing up to launch its latest feature. The instant messaging application has reportedly submitted a new update through the TestFlight Beta program according to Wabetainfo.

According to the website, the new update brings information related to mentions and replies from group chats.

The latest development is in line with WhatsApp's recent feature enabling profile pictures of senders in system notifications. According to the post on Webetainfo, the replies and mentions are added in notifications when one receives messages from group chats. WhatsApp has not enabled this feature for individual chats.


Earlier this week, WhatsApp launched a new feature that will let users view the profile pictures of senders in system notifications. This new feature will allow profile pictures to appear in the notifications whenever a user receives messages from chats or groups. It has been released to some beta testers only on iOS 15 as they use iOS APIs. However, WhatsApp has plans to release it for everyone.

WhatsApp has been consistently releasing updates to make communication effortless for its millions of users worldwide. Towards the end of 2021, the messaging application began working on features such as ‘Quick Replies’ and ‘My Contacts Except’. While 'Quick Replies' enabled busines users to respond to messages using set templates, 'My Contacts Except' allows users to hide 'About' section, 'Last Seen' and profle pcitures from specific contacts.

In December, WhatsApp began testing a new feature that could help users hide their online status. According to screenshots shared by wabetainfo, users go stealth by selecting ‘Nobody’ in Privacy Settings>Last Seen. The website has stated that this feature was a conceptualisation and not an official update.
