WhatsApp, owned by Meta, is getting closer to becoming a comprehensive social media hub.
WhatsApp, the widely-used messaging platform owned by Meta is gradually getting closer to becoming a comprehensive social media hub. The latest update brings a reply bar for status updates, similar to Instagram Stories, enhancing user interaction on both Android and iOS devices.

New Reply Bar Feature

As reported by WhatsApp feature tracker WABetaInfo, the introduction of a reply bar for status updates is a significant step towards simplifying user engagement.

Situated at the bottom of status updates, the reply bar mirrors the functionality seen on Instagram Stories. This feature is designed to streamline the response process, eliminating the need for users to swipe up on status updates to reply.

The beta release is currently accessible to select users through the WhatsApp beta for iOS 23.15.10.72 update from the TestFlight app and the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.26.3 update from the Google Play Store.

The reply bar feature is expected to be gradually rolled out to a wider user base in the coming days.

Upcoming Features

In addition to the reply bar, WhatsApp has been working on integrating status sharing across its Meta counterparts. Users can already share WhatsApp statuses on Facebook, and a feature allowing the transfer of statuses to Instagram is currently in development.

The Status Privacy tab in WhatsApp settings hints at further integration with Facebook and Instagram.

Moreover, WhatsApp is exploring a privacy-focused feature inspired by Telegram – a username-based search functionality. This feature aims to enhance user privacy by enabling individuals to connect on the platform without the need to share phone numbers.

As the beta testing phase progresses, users can expect an improved and streamlined interaction experience, comparable with popular features found on other Meta-owned platforms.
