What's common between D-St guru Motilal Oswal and actor Aamir Khan?
At the Motilal Oswal Global Investor Conference held in Mumbai, over 700 institutional investors, fund managers and hedge fund representatives were all ears as the chairman of the financial services company interviewed his star guest, Aamir Khan. Oswal pitched queries on investments in mutual funds and stocks to the actor. But he expressed open admiration when Khan let on that he was more interested in the pursuit of knowledge.

"I loved when you said that you pursue the power of Saraswati [goddess of knowledge] over the power of Lakshmi [goddess of wealth]," said Oswal. " People sitting here are all propagandists of knowledge, which we use in our day to day lives. So it’s great to know that we have a similar kind of thought process." Oswal also showed appreciation for another process endorsed by the star and him. Namely, the firm belief in the pay for performance model (where you take share from the profits).

Oswal asked Khan if this could be the future of the movie industry. Since a movie was the result of team work, Khan felt there should be two payscales — a basic pay that is equal for all and another based on a point system — the bigger the star, the more points he got in the profits. Drawing parallels, Oswal said, "In our market too, hedge funds charge based on what the investors are making. If investors don’t make money, hedge funds don’t charge the fee.".
