‘You Can See Everything,' a new documentary, is supposed to show Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes in the weeks before she reported to prison for fraud. Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim directed the film. The film gives an unfiltered view of Holmes, her partner and their family. But former Theranos employee and whistleblower Tyler Shultz has criticized the film, arguing that it left out important details about the company’s failed blood-testing technology, according to People.

What is the new Elizabeth Holmes documentary about?

You Can See Everything is a documentary about Elizabeth Holmes, the founder of Theranos, the blood-testing startup that collapsed after its technology failed to deliver what the company had promised.

The film follows Holmes during the 34 days before she reported to federal prison in May 2023. It shows her life with her partner, Billy Evans, and their two children as she prepares to begin her sentence.

According to distributor A24, Holmes invited a film crew to document her daily life shortly before she went to prison. What begins as a close look at her family life develops into a wider examination of her claims of innocence and the questions surrounding her public image.

The nearly three-hour film opened in US theaters on October 16, 2026. It gives viewers access to Holmes at a time when she was facing the consequences of the Theranos scandal.

Why is the documentary drawing attention?

As Holmes founded Theranos in 2003, she became one of Silicon Valley’s most prominent entrepreneurs. However, its technology did not perform as promised. Holmes was convicted in January 2022. She was later sentenced to more than 11 years in prison.

The new documentary presented Holmes’ life shortly before her incarceration. It also raises questions about how viewers saw her account of the company’s technology and her insistence that she did nothing wrong. The film shows Holmes’ interactions with the filmmakers. It also raises questions about whether viewers can trust her account of what happened at Theranos.

Tyler Shultz criticized the documentary for leaving out key details about its technology.

In an October 19 article for STAT News, Shultz argued that the film creates uncertainty about whether Holmes misled people about what Theranos could do. He said the actual blood-testing machine used by the company was different from the device Holmes showed filmmaker Nathan Fielder.

Shultz explained that the machine shown in the film was an unfinished version of the technology, rather than the device he worked with at Theranos. He argued that showing the actual machine would have given viewers a clearer understanding of the company’s failures. Shultz also questioned the film’s treatment of Holmes’ claims that she was innocent. His criticism centres on the gap between the documentary’s portrayal and the events he witnessed while working at the company.

Why did Shultz call Holmes a “broken woman”?

Shultz also reacted to Holmes’ appearance in the documentary, saying she seemed very different from the confident executive he knew while working at Theranos.

In an October 19 appearance on CBS Mornings, he described the woman he saw on screen as a “broken woman” and said she was “almost unrecognizable” compared with the person who once commanded a room.

What to know about the Theranos scandal

Holmes founded Theranos with the promise that they will make blood testing faster and more accessible. But investigations revealed serious problems with its technology and the accuracy of its tests. The scandal raised concerns about the reliability of medical results, the treatment of whistleblowers and the claims companies make to investors.

Shultz was among the people who raised concerns about Theranos. His criticism of You Can See Everything argues that the story should not be viewed only through the film’s portrayal of Holmes. He believes the wider evidence surrounding the company’s actions is essential to understanding what happened.
