What is mucositis? The health condition Hina Khan is facing during breast cancer treatment

Television star Hina Khan, who is courageously battling Stage 3 breast cancer, recently shared another hurdle in her journey—mucositis, a painful side effect of chemotherapy. Yet, in true Hina style, she has kept her spirits high, even adding a dash of humor to the situation by focusing on one of her favorite things—food.

Taking to Instagram, Hina revealed how mucositis, an inflammation of the mucous membranes in the mouth and gastrointestinal tract, has been making it difficult for her to enjoy meals. The actress, known for her roles in Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai and Naagin 5, asked her followers for tips, saying, “Another side effect of chemotherapy is mucositis. Although I am following the doctor’s advice to treat it, if any of you have been through it or know any useful remedies, please suggest. It’s really hard when you can’t eat!”

Her fans and followers quickly stepped up with helpful advice. One user shared a deeply personal story: "My dad also went through all this, ma'am. Just eat cold things every 10-15 minutes if you can, so food can enter your body. We kept giving him something small every now and then. Due to heavy medicine and chemo, this happens, but be strong, ma'am, you will be fine soon. My dad had 18 rounds of chemo."


Meanwhile, Dr. Ankita B Viradiya, another follower, responded with practical medical advice: "Apply analgesic gel like Orasore or Kenacort. Use an alcohol-free mouthwash like Oracool, take multivitamins with lycopene content like Becasules, and drink plenty of coconut water. Also, use an ultra-soft brush like TEPE Special Care. I hope this helps."

Another comment added a useful tip for instant relief: “My mom also went through this. Use a mouth spray that numbs your mouth.”

Hina was diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer a few months ago. The actress opened up about her health condition in June this year and she wrote, "Hello everyone, To address the recent rumours, I want to share some important news with all the Hinaholics and everyone who loves and cares for me. I have been diagnosed with Stage Three breast cancer. Despite this challenging diagnosis, I want to reassure everyone that I am doing well. I am strong, determined and truly committed to overcoming this disease. My treatment has already begun and I am ready to do everything necessary to emerge from this even stronger."

Despite the challenges, Hina’s love for food remains intact. She’s recently shared moments of enjoying her favorite snacks like cookies and macarons, reminding everyone that even in the face of adversity, one can still find joy in the little things.
