South cinema star Sreeleela has been in the spotlight for her fast-rising film career, but away from movie sets, the 24-year-old actor has quietly taken on a responsibility that few her age do. Despite being at a crucial stage professionally, Sreeleela has adopted three children, a decision she kept private for years before speaking about it publicly. Her choice has drawn attention not for its novelty, but for the clarity and intent behind it.

Sreeleela spoke about her journey in an interview with Galatta Plus, marking the first time she openly addressed questions around adoption and motherhood. She admitted that discussing the subject makes her uncomfortable and emotional, which is why she stayed silent for a long time. The actor explained that while the children are well looked after, her role in their lives does not fit the conventional idea of motherhood. She stressed that there is a larger context behind the situation and preferred not to simplify it with labels.

She also shared that the children do not live with her, a reality shaped by practical considerations and her demanding work schedule. While she wished they could stay together, she maintained that their care and well-being remain the priority.

How the adoption journey began

According to Sreeleela, the decision to support and later adopt the children happened early in her career. While working on the 2019 Kannada film Kiss, director A. P. Arjun took her to an ashram. It was there that she met the children who would later become part of her life. The experience left a lasting impact, prompting her to stay connected with them through regular phone calls and visits.

For a long time, she chose to keep this part of her life away from public attention. The decision to speak now, she explained in the Galatta Plus interview, was influenced by the institution caring for the children. They encouraged her to share her story so that more people would consider helping or adopting children in need. She made it clear that she does not want praise, but hopes her actions nudge others to look in the same direction.

Adopting at 21 and expanding her family

Sreeleela adopted two differently-abled children, Guru and Shobhitha, in February 2022, when she was just 21. In April 2025, shortly before turning 24, she welcomed a baby girl into the family. While announcing the addition on social media, she focused on the emotional impact rather than the act itself, keeping details minimal.

In the same interview, she also spoke about having a strong nurturing instinct, adding that she naturally tends to care for people around her in a maternal way. She acknowledged that this side of her personality often surprises those who see her only as a glamorous screen presence.

Sreeleela's career

Professionally, Sreeleela remains one of the busiest young actors in the industry. She has worked across Telugu, Kannada, and Tamil cinema, with films such as Dhamaka, Bhagavanth Kesari, Guntur Kaaram, and Mass Jathara. Her popularity widened further after her appearance in a song from Pushpa 2: The Rule.

She is also set to make her Bollywood debut in Anurag Basu’s upcoming romantic drama opposite Kartik Aaryan.
