The online conversation began after an intern from Bengaluru, Anshika Aggarwal, shared a detailed account of how much she spent each month while completing a two-month internship in the city. Her breakdown offered a closer look at the financial challenges that many students face when temporarily relocating for work experience.
According to the figures she presented, the average monthly cost of living during the internship came to nearly ₹26,000. Accommodation accounted for the largest share of her spending. Staying in a paying guest facility required a payment of approximately ₹12,500 every month, highlighting how housing continues to be one of the most significant financial burdens for newcomers arriving in Bengaluru for studies or early career opportunities.
Food formed the second-largest expense category. Around ₹6,000 was spent on meals each month. Although paying guest arrangements usually provide food as part of the package, she explained that the meals offered were not always dependable, which meant she frequently had to purchase food outside. At the same time, she pointed out that the city still has many reasonably priced eateries for those who know where to search.
Transportation also contributed to her overall monthly costs. Roughly ₹2,000 went towards commuting, mainly through auto-rickshaw rides and cab services used to travel around the city.
Leisure spending remained fairly modest during the internship period. Only about ₹2,000 was allocated for social activities and occasional outings, since she did not spend much time going out while focusing on work.
Additional day-to-day purchases, including basic necessities and small personal items, increased the budget by another ₹1,000 to ₹2,000 each month.
Altogether, these costs brought the total monthly expenditure to approximately ₹26,000. Many users on X responded to the post, noting that the estimate closely reflected their own experiences while living in Bengaluru as interns or young professionals starting their careers. Some people even mentioned that their monthly expenses were significantly higher, suggesting that managing costs in the city often depends heavily on personal lifestyle choices and spending habits.
