‘What an explosive experience!’ Kangana Ranaut showers lavish praise on ‘Kantara’; K’taka govt announces help for dancers

Sandalwood film ‘Kantara’ is on a high currently. The Rishab Shetty-directorial is enjoying a dream run at the box-office and gathering rave reviews - both from critics as well as industry veterans.
The latest celebrity to join the cheerleading team for ‘Kantara’ is none other than the ‘Queen’ of Bollywood, Kangana Ranaut. She took to social media to praise the movie and described it as "unbelievable”.
The ‘Manikarnika’ actress uploaded a selfie video on her Instagram handle where she was seen fangirling over the film’s writing, screenplay, direction and performances from the cast. “I am coming back with my family after watching a film called Kantara and I am still shaking. What an explosive experience!. Rishab Shetty hats off to you. Writing, directing, acting, action, brilliant! Unbelievable! What a fine blend of folklore, tradition, indigenous issues. What beautiful photography, action, thriller, ” praised the ‘Tanu Weds Manu’ star.
The ‘Gangster’ actress also revealed that the film had made quite a lasting impact on her. “I heard so many people in the theatre say that they had never seen anything like this. Thank you for this film. I don’t think I will recover from this experience for another week,” she concluded.
Apart from commercial and critical success, the movie also has also made a far-reaching social impact. On Thursday, the Karnataka government announced a monthly allowance of Rs. 2000 for elderly Daiva Narthakas above the age of 60. Narthakas are dancers who dance in honour of local deities. The dance, also known as ‘Bhoota Kola’ is an animistic ritual performance staged to invoke regional deities. This tradition is observed in parts of Karnataka and North Kerala.
The ‘Bhoota Kola’ dance plays a central role in the film. Bengaluru MP PC Mohan took to Twitter to announce the good news. “Adoring Daivas, dance, and divine intervention. The BJP-led #Karnataka government has announced a Rs 2,000 monthly allowance for ‘Daiva Narthakas’ above 60 years of age. Bhoota Kola, a spirit worship ritual depicted in the movie #Kantara is part of Hindu Dharma,” his tweet read.

The ‘Kantara’ fandom was of course overjoyed. One social media user wrote, “People ask what u gave to the society through the cinema. Come check this, here is the answer.” Another fan commented, “To start with. Amount is not so imp.. Gesture is! Contribution of #artistic_creativity in d nation's cultural/spiritual growth needs to be accorded recognition!”
Directed by Shetty (who also features in the leading role) the movie explores the age-old theme of man versus nature and also adds a contemporary angle to it through a sub-plot on land politics. The film is currently the third-highest grossing Sandalwood film, just behind ‘KGF: Chapter 1’ and ‘KGF: Chapter 2’. It has made Rs 170 cr worldwide and Rs 150 cr in India.
Apart from performing remarkably well at the box-office, the movie has also received much appreciation from the public. The movie was ranked as number one, on the list of ‘India’s Current Top 250 Films’ on IMDB. It enjoys a rating of 9.3 (out of 10) on IMDb.

She was pretty upset when women didn't come out in support of her, especially after the actress claimed to be a "feminist". Ranaut locked horns with Indian Police Service officer D Roopa Moudgil over the latter’s comments on bursting firecrackers on Diwali, calling her a "shame in the name of police force" and demanding her suspension. The spat, which was originally between the officer and a Twitter handle - True Indology - over the connection behind firecrackers and Diwali, saw the actress providing her inputs.
