‘What a swansong.’ Sundar Pichai, SRK bowled over by Messi’s magic at FIFA World Cup finale

Lionel Messi proved once again that he is officially the GOAT (greatest of all time) when it comes to football.

The 35-year-old footballer led the Argentina team to a roaring victory on Sunday, December 18. Argentina won the FIFA World Cup 2022 by defeating France 4-2 on penalties.

This thumping victory has helped the football veteran reinforce his position as the greatest football player of all time.


India is known to have several thousand football fanatics. So unsurprisingly several football aficionados flooded social media to celebrate Messi’s glorious win. From regular people to the who’s who of the entertainment, sports, and business sector, several Indians took to Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook to congratulate Messi and unleash their inner fanboys!

India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi was one of the first to congratulate the Argentina team on their roaring victory. He wrote, “This will be remembered as one of the most thrilling Football matches! Congrats to Argentina on becoming #FIFAWorldCup Champions! They’ve played brilliantly through the tournament. Millions of Indian fans of Argentina and Messi rejoice in the magnificent victory! @alferdez.”
Sachin Tendulkar (who is termed ‘the God of cricket’) congratulated his fellow GOAT, through a heartfelt post. Taking to Twitter, he wrote, “Many congratulations to Argentina on doing this for Messi! Wonderful comeback from the way they started the campaign. Special mention to Martinez for the spectacular save toward the end of extra time. That was a clear indication to me that Argentina would clinch this.”
Cricketer Virendra Sehwag wrote, “One of the greatest World Cup games of all time. Mbappe was outstanding for France but it was meant to be Lionel Messi's crowning moment. Congratulations Argentina on becoming the #FIFAWorldCup champions.”

Many prominent leaders of the business fraternity also congratulated Messi and his team. Sundar Pichai, the Google, and Alphabet CEO wrote an exuberant post. “One of the greatest games ever. Well played Argentina and France. Jogo Bonito. Nobody deserves it more than #messi, imho the greatest ever to play the game. What a swansong.”

Billionaire and ‘Chief Twit’ Elon Musk who made headlines mostly for the wrong reasons this year, also tweeted about the match, calling it a “Duel in the Desert” and lauded the performance of the Argentina team.

Apple CEO Tim Cook called the final game “one of the greatest games I’ve ever seen.” He congratulated Argentina for winning the FIFA World Cup 2022 title.
The Bollywood fraternity also gushed about Messi’s landslide victory.

King Khan SRK, penned an emotional post on how he used to watch World Cup on the small screen with his mother. He also praised Messi and his team profusely and thanked him for making people believe in the power of perseverance. “We are living in the time of one of the best World Cup Finals ever. I remember watching WC with my mom on a small tv….now the same excitement with my kids!! And thank u #Messi for making us all believe in talent, hard work & dreams!!" he wrote.

Ranveer Singh kept his congratulatory tweet simple and heartfelt. “It had to be Him. #Messi.’’

Kartik Aaryan dedicated a post to Messi on his Instagram stories. “Greatest final match ever. What a match!!! Congratulations to the legend.” He also shared an image of Messi, added a crown emoticon, and caption the post “Shehzada”, referring to his upcoming movie.
