We wouldn’t go against the law: Shilpa Shetty

Actor Shilpa Shetty has dipped her toes in a lot of entrepreneurial ventures — including the IPL, yoga DVDs, a spa — the latest one being Satyug Gold. In this scheme, one can buy gold coins and bars from her company at a 37 per cent discount, provided they pay upfront and wait two to five years for delivery. The plan has now hit regulatory hurdles, as Sebi is looking into the scheme, but Shetty stands by the project.

"Such talks are upsetting. I don’t mind when people write rubbish about me, but it’s truly damaging for a business. Raj (Kundra) and I have ethics and we wouldn’t do anything that is against the law. We don’t belong to that class of people. The scheme was an inaugural offer and is still available at different rates."

She adds, "Raj is the CEO and takes all the financial decisions, while I’m focussed on taking forward the design plan and deciding on what’s going to work for the younger generation."

Meanwhile, on the business lessons that she has learnt from Raj, Shetty says that the quality she most admires is his ability to keep calm. "His philosophy is that we have to do what is right for the business at all times, even if it means to discontinue it at some point," reasons Shetty.
