A quiet town and family are fighting for their lives from a mysterious sea creature. Netflix’s Below brings Josh Hartnett into a thriller, Below. The danger comes from the water, and the town’s secrets run deep. Netflix released all six episodes on October 8.

Inside the plot of Below

According to Netflix, Tudum, Below follows Calvin Penney, played by Josh Hartnett. He is a fisherman who lives in a small Newfoundland town. He is also haunted by his father’s mysterious death years earlier.

His life takes a turn when an unknown sea creature begins terrorizing the town. Calvin must protect his family and help his neighbors fight back. He also teams up with Fonda Howander, a marine researcher played by Mackenzie Davis, to uncover the truth.

The story is about more than a sea creature

The creature is the main threat, but the town has other problems. Netflix Tudum describes the series as a story about a community trying to protect its way of life.

Calvin is not just fighting an unknown force in the water. He is also trying to keep his family and neighbors safe. The mystery brings the town’s struggles and buried secrets to the surface.

The show takes place in a small fishing community in Newfoundland, Canada. Netflix Tudum explained that creator Jesse McKeown wanted to tell a story set in Newfoundland.

“I just always felt like I wanted to set something here, that this would be a great place for something big and something kind of epic. It’s such a unique landscape and such a rugged, dangerous, isolated, scary place in a lot of ways. But then there’s also this other side to it, which is that the community is so warm and the people are so funny and unique and there are so many eccentricities about the place,” McKeown said.

He liked its rough natural scenery and small communities where people know each other. He said the place can feel isolated and dangerous, but its people are also warm and funny.

Cast of Below

Josh Hartnett plays Calvin Penney, the fisherman at the center of the story. Mackenzie Davis plays Fonda Howander, a marine researcher who helps him investigate the creature.

Charlie Heaton plays Wade, Calvin’s son. The cast also includes Ruby Stokes, Rohan Campbell, Willow Kean and Natasha Henstridge.
