Vivek Oberoi recently opened up on how he was ostracised in Bollywood
Actor and entrepreneur Vivek Oberoi recently reflected on a challenging phase in his professional journey, describing how unexpected setbacks followed even his most celebrated performances. In an interview with Pinkvilla, he revealed that despite earning praise for intense roles in films such as Omkara and finding box-office success with projects like Shootout at Lokhandwala, he discovered that recognition did not automatically lead to steady opportunities. During a conversation with Pinkvilla, he explained that although his work received both awards and applause, and even though he was welcomed at industry gatherings, he soon realised that only a handful of filmmakers were actually prepared to collaborate with him.

Recognition Without Opportunities

According to Vivek, the positive reception of his films created an impression that his career was back on track. However, he gradually learned that many people who verbally expressed interest in casting him were hesitant to follow through due to pressures exerted by influential circles within the industry. He felt there was no reasonable explanation behind the reluctance he encountered.

Despite putting in consistent effort and delivering appreciated performances, he found himself restricted by the widespread practice of lobbying. This situation left him emotionally drained, and he admitted that the unfairness of it all affected his mental well-being and caused significant distress.

Returning to the Screen

After navigating years of professional difficulty, Vivek has stepped back into the spotlight with the comedy-drama Masti 4. Just like the earlier instalments of the franchise, the latest film reunites him with Aftab Shivdasani and Riteish Deshmukh, who continue to portray the central characters alongside him. His return marks a renewed chapter, one shaped by resilience and a determination to reclaim his place in cinema.

The Legacy of the Masti Series

The original Masti, released in 2004 under the direction of Indra Kumar, quickly evolved into an unexpected commercial triumph. The plot followed three married men dissatisfied with their domestic lives, who seek excitement outside their relationships. Their misguided attempts at adventure lead them into a chaotic situation that resembles a murder investigation, setting the stage for a comedy of errors that resonated strongly with audiences.
