Vivek Burman's grand farewell party for Cyprus High Commissioner
Even rising temperatures can’t dampen the party spirit in the capital as witnessed by a recent get together at Vivek Burman’s Lutyen’s residence. Last week, the Dabur India chairman emeritus hosted a farewell reception for Cyprus High Commissioner Demetrios A Theophylactou. Burman’s wife, Monica and, sons, Mohit and Gaurav donned the host hats along with him.

Burman’s connection to the embassy and consulate circles stems from his own role as the honorary consul general of the Republic of Nicaragua. Guests at the reception enjoyed the cocktails and hors-d’oeuvres as they admired a painting exhibition put together especially for the occasion. Cyprian artist Georghios Georghiou painted works based on the theme — ‘India-Cyprus: Common Roots Across Time’.

The two countries certainly have a lot in common. Going by recent news reports, a prominent real estate man, Mumbai-based Surendra Hiranandani, recently gave up his Indian passport in favour of the Cyprian one. A topic of conversation for the evening?
