On Tuesday, September 8, Netflix dropped a post featuring the movie poster on Instagram announcing the release of Viswanath & Sons. The film will start streaming on September 11 in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam.

The side note offered a peek at Suriya’s character in the movie. It read, ‘Meet Sanjay Vishwanath (Suriya) - Athlete, billionaire, philanthropist and a loving father. Watch Vishwanath & Sons on Netflix, out on 11 September in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam.’

Viswanath & Sons box office reception

Viswanath & Sons enjoyed a successful run in the theatres. As per a report by Cinema Express, the film grossed over Rs 260 crore at the global box office on Monday, September 7.

With this, Viswanath & Sons has become the second Suriya starrer of 2026 to gross more than Rs 250 crore from theatres worldwide, the first one being Karuppu, which minted over Rs 300 crore.

Viswanath & Sons plot and cast details

Viswanath & Sons revolves around Sanjay Vishwanath, portrayed by Suriya, a professional shooter who has spent years pursuing perfection in his sport. However, his carefully built life begins to shift as he confronts ageing, family obligations and an unexpected romantic relationship. The character reportedly draws some inspiration from Suriya’s Sanjay Ramaswamy from the 2005 film Ghajini, though the storyline is different.

Meanwhile, Mamitha Baiju plays Sanjay’s romantic interest. The film is also among Mamitha’s recent projects featuring an age-gap love story, alongside Bethlehem Kudumba Unit, directed by Premalu filmmaker Girish AD and featuring Nivin Pauly. The cast also includes Radikaa Sarathkumar and Raveena Tandon. The film marks Tandon’s return to Tamil cinema after a long gap, following her appearance in the 2001 film Aalavandhan, which starred Kamal Haasan.
