Kannappa was released in June
Vishnu Manchu’s long-cherished dream project, Kannappa, has finally arrived on OTT. After a 10-week theatrical run, the devotional epic is now streaming on Amazon Prime Video in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam. For now, there’s no word on when or if a Hindi version will be added.

Directed by Mukesh Kumar Singh and written by Vishnu Manchu himself, Kannappa is rooted in the timeless legend of the tribal warrior Thinnadu. Once a stubborn atheist, Thinnadu’s transformation into a devout follower of Lord Shiva—through his worship of the Vayulinga—forms the emotional core of the narrative. Vishnu Manchu plays the titular role with intensity, supported by a glittering ensemble that has been one of the film’s biggest talking points since its announcement.

The casting of Akshay Kumar as Lord Shiva and Kajal Aggarwal as Goddess Parvati grabbed headlines early on. Adding more star power, Prabhas and Mohanlal appear in impactful cameo roles, while veterans like Mohan Babu, Sarathkumar, and Madhubala lend weight to the devotional saga. The film’s music, composed by Stephen Devassy, aims to blend grandeur with spirituality, complementing the mythological canvas.

Kannappa first hit cinemas on June 27, 2025. Critics and audiences offered mixed reviews: Vishnu Manchu’s performance and the film’s emotionally charged climax earned praise, as did Prabhas’s special appearance. However, opinions were divided over pacing, and certain execution choices. Despite this, the film drew attention for its ambition and scale, making it one of the most-discussed mythological dramas of the year.

With its Prime Video debut, the spotlight now shifts to digital audiences. Whether Kannappa will win over home viewers across South India remains to be seen, but its OTT release ensures the legend continues to reach new homes.
