Prime Minister Narendra Modi's enthusiasm and love for sports inspired wrestler Vinesh Phogat.

The 27-year-old athlete, along with her mother and brother, met PM Modi on Monday.

The wrestler said she was touched by his concern for athletes. "His enthusiasm and love for sport is truly boundless," she wrote.

The former world championship bronze-medallist also thanked PM Modi for sparing time from his busy schedule, and keeping his promise of interacting with the Phogat family.

In August, Phogat had made a shock first-round exit from the Tokyo Olympics despite being one of India's strongest medal contenders.

After her return, PM Modi had arranged a meeting with all the Tokyo Games athletes, and had given Phogat a pep talk as well.

Later that month, the sports star had pulled out of the World Championship trials, complaining of weakness. She underwent a surgery on her right elbow in early September. At that time, she had said that her pull-out was not due to injury and she only felt "dizziness".

Earlier this month, Phogat also met Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju. She thanked the former Sports Minister for encouraging and promoting Indian sport and athletes. "On behalf of all my fellow athletes, we are grateful for your constant support, which drives us to bring glory to our nation every day," she wrote.
