Vijay's Jana Nayagan release date revealed? When will the actor turned Tamil Nadu CM's last movie hit the theatres

Tamil superstar and now Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay has been waiting for the release date of his much-delayed film Jana Nayagan. The film, directed by H Vinoth, was earlier expected to release during the Pongal season in January, but things did not go as planned. Since then, the project has remained stuck in the certification process with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), leaving fans waiting for months.

Now, a fresh update from online ticket booking platforms has led to new excitement among Vijay’s supporters, many of whom are eagerly waiting to watch what is being called his final film before he completely shifts focus to politics.

Ticket booking platforms hint at June release

The latest buzz started after the film’s listing on District by Zomato reportedly showed the line “Releasing on June 19.” Around the same time, BookMyShow also updated the movie’s page and mentioned that the film would arrive in June, though no exact date was mentioned there.


The June 19 date quickly went viral on social media. Many fans noticed that the date comes just three days before Vijay’s birthday on June 22, making it even more special for his followers. However, there has still been no official confirmation from the makers regarding the release date.

Reports around the film suggest that the online listing may have been an internal update or a temporary placeholder, but the update was enough to trigger speculation online.

The makers of Jana Nayagan are still being cautious about revealing any firm release timeline, as the film continues to await censor clearance. Producer Venkat K Narayana of KVN Productions recently spoke to the media after a temple visit and confirmed that the certification process is still pending, adding that the team is hopeful it will be completed soon.

He further said that the release date will only be announced after the censor certificate is received, and assured that the film will be released worldwide in a grand manner once everything is in place. He also briefly reacted to Vijay becoming the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, expressing happiness over the development and noting the significance of the film’s title in that context.

The delay has only increased curiosity around the project because Jana Nayagan is widely expected to be Vijay’s final film as a full-time actor. After entering politics through Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), Vijay’s political career moved rapidly this year when his party reportedly emerged as the single largest party in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.

Earlier this month, Vijay also took oath as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu at a ceremony held in Chennai.

Apart from Vijay, the film also stars Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, Prakash Raj, Priyamani and Gautham Vasudev Menon in important roles.

The music for the film has been composed by Anirudh Ravichander, while cinematography is handled by Sathyan Sooryan. The project is being produced under the KVN Productions banner.
