Veteran actress-talk show host Tabassum of ‘Phool Khile Hain Gulshan Gulshan’ fame passes away at 78
The actress was suffering from some gastro problems.

Actor Tabassum Govil passes away at 78 due to cardiac arrest
Tabassum Govil who was one of the most beloved interviewers, talk show hosts, and actresses in India, breathed her last on Friday, November 18. The actress suffered two cardiac attacks on November 18, her son told the news agency PTI.
“A few days ago, she was admitted to a hospital. She had a gastro problem and we went there for a check-up. She suffered two cardiac attacks at 8.40 pm and 8.42 pm. She passed away peacefully on Friday night,” he was quoted as saying.
Although she was suffering from some age-related health issues namely gastro problems the actress was hale and hearty for the most part. Her son told The Indian Express that the actress had even shot for one of his shows 10 days ago. “ "She was absolutely healthy. We shot for our show 10 days ago. And were about to shoot again next week. It happened all of a sudden, ” he told the English daily.
Some members of the film fraternity took to Twitter to pay their last respects to the actress. Filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar dedicated a post to the actress on Twitter and mourned her loss. “Sad to hear the demise of veteran actress & anchor Tabassum Ji. As a kid, we used to watch her famous show on @DDNational Phool Khile Hain Gulshan Gulshan. My heartfelt condolences to her Family Members & Admirers. #OmShanti.”
Tabassum was born Kiran Bala Sachdev in 1944. started her Bollywood innings as a child artist in 1947. She had featured in many blockbusters like ‘Baiju Bawra’ (where she essayed Meena Kumari’s childhood avatar). She later transitioned to adult roles in movies like ‘Chameli Ki Shaadi’, ‘Naache Mayuri’, ‘Sur Sangam’ etc.
However, she rose to fame as a talk-show host. Her celebrity talk show ‘Phool Khile Hain Gulshan Gulshan’ which aired from 1972-1993 on Doordarshan made her a household name. She made her comeback on the small screen with the TV show ‘Pyaar Ke Do Naam: Ek Raadha, Ek Shyaam’. She was also the editor of the Hindi magazine, Grihalaxmi.
