Veteran actor Dilip Kumar hospitalised, being treated for recurrent pneumonia

The yesteryear star was admitted to Mumbai's Lilavati Hospital last month after complaints of a chest infection.

Veteran actor Dilip Kumar has been admitted to the hospital, and is being treated for recurrent pneumonia.

The news was confirmed on the 95-year-old actor's official Twitter account that is handled by his family friend Faisal Farooqui when the actor is not using it.

The post read: "Want to inform you @TheDilipKumar has been admitted to hospital last night. He's being treated for recurrent pneumonia. Praying...will keep you updated on twitter. --FF (@faisalMouthshut)."



The actor, who turns 96 in December this year, was admitted to Mumbai's Lilavati Hospital last month after reportedly complaining of uneasiness due to a chest infection.

The versatile actor, whose real name is Muhammed Yusuf KhanYusu, is known for his memorable performances in classics like 'Andaz', 'Aan', 'Madhumati', 'Devdas', 'Mughal-e-Azam', 'Ganga Jamuna', 'Kranti', 'Karma' and others.

In 1991, Kumar starred alongside fellow veteran actor Raaj Kumar in 'Saudagar', his third and last film with director Subhash Ghai. This was his second film with Raaj Kumar after 1959's 'Paigham'. 'Saudagar' was Kumar's last box office success. In 1993, he was honoured with the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the industry.

He last appeared on the big screen in the film 'Qila' in 1998. The actor was also awarded with the Dadasaheb Phalke award in 1994 and Padma Bhushan in 2015.
