The film marks Sooraj Barjatya's comeback as a director after seven years.
Seven years after ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Payo’, Sooraj Barjatya is back to what he does best - make feel-good, wholesome, family dramas. However ‘Uunchai’ the latest venture of the Rajshri Production honcho, is not another romantic drama, but a movie celebrating friendship.

Starring Amitabh Bachchan, Anupam Kher and Boman Irani, the film revolves around a trip taken by three old men who are on a mission to climb Mt Everest, the tallest mountain in the world. The two minute, 20 second trailer is the perfect cocktail of emotion and lighthearted fun.

The trailer begins with four oldies, Amitabh Bachchan, Boman Irani, Anupam Kher and Danny Denzongpa planning a once-in-a-life time mountaineering trip where they would climb Mt Everest. However, before they could carry out the plan, Denzongpa’s character dies. The remaining three do not let this loss deter them and hatch a plan to climb the mountain and rest their late friend’s ashes at the peak. The trailer ends with Kishore Kumar’s soul ‘Yeh Jeevan Hai’ playing in the background. It is implied that the three succeed in what they set out to do.

Something can be said about the trailer revealing too much of the plot. Like Barjatya’s movies, the trailer too wears its heart on its sleeves without holding anything back. However we shouldn’t assume that the ace director does not have something surprising for his audience!

The movie is a refreshing departure from the grand-scale family sagas Rajshri Production is known for. Instead of grandeur, the film seems to explore more on the subtlety of human relationships, especially an overlooked one - friendships between the elderly.

The film also has a bubbly Parineeti Chopra in the role of a dynamic mountaineering guide who helps the three senior citizens get to the peak of Everest. The cast also includes other well-known names like Neena Gupta, Sarika etc. It is written by Sunil Gandhi and produced by Sooraj Barjatya, Mahaveer Jain and Natasha Malpani Oswal. The film will hit the theatres on November 11.
