Adam Brody Campaigns For Abdul El-Sayed In Michigan, Urges Fans To Support Democrat In US Senate Race

While he may have made the audience recoil at how convincing he was as the sinister and bloodthirsty rockstar Nikolai Wolf in Jennifer’s Body, offscreen, Adam Brody is proving to be quite the sweetheart. In a viral video shared by HotGirlsOrganize on Instagram, the actor acknowledged his two passions - his wife, the beautiful Gossip Girl star Leighton Meester, and positive politics. He said he was at Michigan, campaigning with Swing Left’s Ground Truth, and aimed to help elect Abdul El-Sayed to the Senate and win back the House. He also urged his fans to cast their vote in the upcoming election as well.

When Lex Rountree, the woman in the video, says he is eager to help everyone access Medicare, the actor affirms and says he's also eager to keep “money out of politics".

Impressed by his enthusiasm, Rountree said, "Wow, we have so much in common; we both love progressive politics and your beautiful wife,” to which he said, “Yeah, I guess we do … You’re voting, right?” Brody asks. “Well, yes,” she quipped back. The video ended with the pair urging people, “And you should, too.”

Who Is Abdul El-Sayed?

Born and raised in Michigan, Abdul El-Sayed is of Egyptian descent and an epidemiologist-turned-politician. His father is an Imam. El-Sayed finished his bachelor’s degree at the University of Michigan before becoming a Rhodes Scholar at the University of Oxford, where he earned a Ph.D. in public health. He later earned a medical degree from Columbia University and became an assistant professor of epidemiology at the Mailman School of Public Health there. From 2015 to 2017, he served as the executive director of the Detroit Health Department.

A confirmed Progressive and a Democrat, El-Sayed defeated U.S. Representative Haley Stevens in the 2026 Michigan Democratic Senate primary. He is currently battling Republican nominee Mike Rogers in the general election. If he is elected, he would become the first Muslim in the US Senate.
