Richard Verma, the US Ambassador to India, has apologised to actor Shah Rukh Khan for his detention at the Los Angeles airport on Thursday. Verma, while tweeting from his handle, apologized for the trouble caused and reassured that they were working to ensure that such an incident is not repeated.

He said that the actor's work inspires millions, including those who live in the United States.


Earlier on Thursday, the actor was detained at the Los Angeles airport for questioning by the US immigration department.

This is the third time in seven years that he has been stopped by US immigration officials at the country's airports.

Following the detention, the actor took to Twitter to express his disappointment.

Nisha Desai Biswal, the Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia in the US Department of State, also apologised for the "hassle" that Khan had faced at the airport.
