These may look like any other pair of Bluetooth headphones – but there’s a good reason for the ‘hybrid’ moniker. Pair with your phone/tablet/laptop as usual to listen on a personal level.


When you want to share your music with the room, simply flick the headphone earcups outwards and it transforms into a Bluetooth speaker! We think it sounds much better in headphone mode though.

In loudspeaker mode, they are loud but not very clear. There are controls for music play/pause, next/previous and phone answer/end.

Conspicuously absent is volume — you need to control this from the source device. Other features include NFC for easier pairing, micro USB charging and a 3.5mm port for wired use.

One unusual bonus feature — they can also be used as a standalone music player thanks to micro SD card slot.

Kudos for originality but a couple of negatives must be mentioned: no carry case and a somewhat boring design with black plastic construction.

NEX is Vivo’s latest all-screen smartphone design.

They’ve announced two in the range already: NEX A and NEX S. NEX A has a Snapdragon 710 processor with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage while the NEX S has a Snapdragon 845, 8GB RAM and 128/256GB storage.

The other big difference is the fingerprint scanner: NEX A has a conventional one on the rear while NEX S has one under the display.

Both have a 6.59-inch super amoled displays with a screen to body ratio of 91.2% and 4,000mAh battery.

Since the front is dominated by the screen, Vivo has placed the 8MP front camera in a unique (motorised) pop-up mechanism.

On the back is a 12MP + 5MP dual camera setup with 4-axis optical image stabilisation.
