Two Indian techies, crazy coincidences and finally love: Same Mumbai tuition, same US university and flats in same building in Silicon Valley

Romance isn’t about how long two people have known each other—it’s about moments, like "KJo movie marathons". That may not be everyone’s love language, but for Veer Lade and Madhura Raut, it was. The two techies first met in tuition classes, later attended the same university in the USA, and even ended up living in the same building in Silicon Valley. But when Cupid finally struck, they went from “your place or mine?” to “our place,” falling deeply in love.

Veer Lade shared his love story with Humans of Bombay, reminiscing about how he found his forever in Madhura Raut. Their journey began in 2013 when they attended the same tuition during their first year of engineering. Back then, their interactions were minimal, limited to exchanging notes. Fate, however, had other plans. In 2015, they crossed paths again after securing admission to the same university in the US for their Master's. They reconnected during orientation in Mumbai, exchanged numbers, and soon found themselves living in the same building in Los Angeles.



As they spent more time together—studying, quizzing each other, exploring the city—Veer realized how Madhura made even the simplest moments special. It didn’t take long for feelings to develop, and after a few months, she finally said yes to his proposal. Their first date was nothing short of magical, filled with skydiving and stargazing.

Despite the challenges of a long-distance relationship, with Madhura moving to San Francisco for work, they made it work—splitting time between their places in LA and SF, all while dreaming of a home they could call their own. Veer knew she was the one when he broke his elbow while hiking, and she was there, turning tough days into joyful ones with board games and KJo movie marathons. Determined to build a future together, they saved up, bought a house, and turned it into a home.

The final piece of their love story unfolded in Paris. Amidst flowers and wine, Veer got down on one knee and proposed in the world’s most romantic city. A year later, as he watched Madhura walk down the aisle, he couldn’t believe she was the same girl he once borrowed notes from. Reflecting on their journey, he believes love doesn’t always come with grand gestures or background music—it can start in the most unexpected places. Perhaps, even at a grocery store, someone’s fairytale is just waiting to begin.

Madhura Raut is a Data Scientist and holds a degree in MS in Computer Science from the University of Southern California. She is passionate about travelling and photography and also has a website dedicated to that. Meanwhile, Veer Lade holds a Master’s degree in Computer Science. He too is a Data scientist and is currently employed with Uber.
