Twitter’s latest update makes it easier for you to skip app recommendations

Social media giant Twitter has rolled out its latest feature to ensure ease of use for its millions of users. The new feature makes it easy for users to switch between the Home timeline and the feed with ‘Latest Tweets’. The Home timeline is algorithmically programmed and shows tweets that are based on recommendations.

While the ‘Home’ feed is algorithmically served, the ‘Latest Tweets’ feed has a reverse chronological orientation. The new feature will make recent posts more visible and intuitive in the Latest feed.

“The Home and Latest timelines are now just a swipe away for everyone on iOS, and soon on Android and web. Tap the <sparkle> icon to pin (or unpin) the Latest timeline to your Home tab for easy access,” tweeted the social media platform.

Twitter has announced that the new feature is available first on iOS, and will be featured on Android and Web soon. Starting today, iOS users will need to click on the sparkle icon to pin both the Home and Latest Tweets timelines to their Twitter home page.

Earlier, to switch timelines, users had to tap the sparkle icon. However, now the new feature lets them pin Home and Latest tweets making it easier to navigate.

According to TechCrunch.com, The latest development comes in the wake of the mounting regulatory pressure on tech firms on their algorithmic recommendations systems and the lack of transparency around their inner workings.

Tech experts say that the ‘Latest’ feed can be more instrumental in breaking news situations when important news is more critical than algorithmic recommendations of the best of content that the user missed.

The Home and Lastest timelines were initially tested by Twitter in October 2021. The company decided to roll the feature considering the positive feedback it got.
