Twitter testing ‘Edit Tweet’ feature, netizens wonder if it will impact social media platform’s legacy

The popular microblogging site, Twitter, has revealed that it has been testing the 'Edit Tweet' feature. As of now, the test is conducted internally, it will be extended to Twitter Blue subscribers in the next few weeks.

It is to be noted that the Edit feature has been demanded by users right from the inception of the platform. On Thursday, the tech company took to its official Twitter handle to share a tweet.

"If you see an edited Tweet it's because we're testing the edit button. this is happening and you'll be okay,” read the tweet. Twitter Blue is a paid monthly subscription that gives users access to premium features. In its blog post, Twitter said that the edit feature will let users edit their tweets a few times in 30 minutes following the publication.


After Twitter announced its plan to roll out the edit feature, users from all over the world came up with some of the most unique reactions to the developments. The reactions ranged from serious concerns to some humorous takes on the news.
Twitter in its blog said that the edited tweets will appear with an icon, timestamp, and label so it is clear to readers that the original tweet has been altered. Users can tap on the label to view the tweet’s edit history which includes the past versions of the tweet.

The social media giant said that it is currently testing 'Edit Tweet' in a smaller group and that it will expand it to Twitter Blue subscribers later this month. Twitter said that it will be paying close attention to how the feature will impact the way people read, write, and engage with tweets. The test is being carried out in a single country initially and it will expand to more nations based on how people use the 'Edit Tweet' button.
