The Eiffel Tower did not meet G Sathiyan's expectation.
India’s No 1 TT player G Sathiyan on being a little let down by the monument:

I have been to many places this year. But on the personal front, I went to Paris in November, which has been on my must-visit list for a long time. It was a great trip; discovering the city was a lovely experience.

I did not go for a tournament there, so it was different. I went with a few friends. We went for a weekend break before I went back to my schedule and preparation for the Olympics.

I am not a big foodie, I just like to try different foods -- so I did sample the cheese, the local food, fries. Parisian coffee is famous and I am a coffee lover, so I did have that. With a tough schedule and jet lag, it helped.

I wanted to see the Eiffel Tower. It has been a dream since childhood. I remember reading about it in a magazine as a young boy. I went to a lot of other places in Paris before I went there and they amazed me. Perhaps, if I had seen the Eiffel Tower first, I would have been more awed by it. I was happy, but it did not meet that expectation I had as a child, flipping through the pictures.

I met different people there. I usually find Europeans serious and rule-based. But in Paris, they were quite friendly and there was a nice Indian mix. I now want to visit Venice next.
