WhatsApp may be developing a new feature that will allow users to message themselves across devices. According to media reports, users will see their names in the chat if they link their account to a PC or any other smartphone, according to reports.

According to a YouTube video quoted by News18, the new video that the feature is currently under development will soon be available for beta testers for the iOS and Android platforms. However, exact details on how the feature will function are still under wraps.

WhatsApp is the biggest instant messaging application in the world. However, unlike other IM apps, WhatsApp doesn’t allow users to use the application on more than one mobile device. The application is the most requested one by the users, which is why the rumoured feature could be the most popular update in a long while.

The application came under serious criticism after reports of security and privacy breaches, along with fishy data policies. The criticism grew in intensity after Meta, then called Facebook, acquired the application in 2014. The new privacy-centric features are in line with the company’s recent updates, which include disappearing messages and options to transfer files up to 2 GB. One of the most important privacy features to have come in recent times is the encryption for backed-up chats.
