Apple CEO Tim Cook believes Rich Communication Services (RCS) compatibility for the iPhone is not required anymore because Apple consumers have not requested the RCS texting service on the iPhone. During a 2022 Code Conference discussion with Laurene Powell Jobs and Jony Ive, he remarked this as an answer to the query from a member of the audience.

He added that he does not hear users' requests as they focus their efforts on the possibility of Apple implementing RCS capability in the iPhone. According to his statement, Apple does not oppose the concept of allowing RCS functionality, which was expected to improve iPhone users' messaging experience with Android users. But, for the time being, Apple has said no to RCS.

Google took an unusual approach in June to persuade Apple to accept the RCS text messaging service. The tech behemoth requested that Apple enable iPhone users to convert to RCS to avoid the issue of iPhones being unable to receive texts from Android smartphones. To make its point, Google used Drake's new album Nevermind's song "Texts Go Green" and produced an "unofficial lyric explanatory video" on Twitter.

Google was referring to phone number-based text messages from Android smartphones being prohibited on iMessage and displayed as green SMS bubbles in the text.
Google is referring to the fact that RCS allows encryption when it says to make messaging secure.

An Apple official earlier stated that "bringing iMessage to Android will damage us more than assist us." Another Apple employee allegedly stated that "iMessage amounts to substantial lock-in," referring to iPhone owners' confidence in iMessage.
