Soul “Training is a spiritual experience. I give my 100 per cent and that helps my soul. Yoga and meditation are a part of my routine that I do daily for at least 15-20 minutes after I wake up. These help me clear my mind. As a wrestler, before I enter the mat, I always pay my respects to it. It is part of my training to pray before a bout, it helps me calm down, focus and gives me the determination to win. The best part about spiritual peace is that it makes me feel light from within.” Vinesh Phogat
Body “I have a daily fitness routine that I follow which includes going to the gym, working out on different parts of my body, running, weight training and wrestling. I rest on Sundays, Wednesdays and Saturday evenings. Rest is just as vital as training. On other days, I train for three hours in the morning and three hours in the evening. My coach decides the breakup of what has to be done in which half as well as the sequence. The tournament I am preparing for dictates my regimen. When it comes to diet, it is usually protein-heavy as it is vital for recovery during training. I try to eat light. Chicken, sprouts and curd are my go-to foods. I have to keep an eye on my weight at all times. This means I cannot have much carbs. I sometimes indulge in a cheat meal. My guilty pleasure is sweets. It doesn’t matter what type, it just needs to be sweet.” Vinesh Phogat Mind “Reading and music helps me keep my mind in check. I like reading books that motivate me, especially those on the lives of sports personalities. There are many legends in various sports that have incredible books written about them. There are also some wrestlers whose lives have been immortalised in pages and are very inspirational. When it comes to music, the songs that I listen to depend on my mood — sad songs, romantic numbers, pop music and even some devotional music. Sometimes, going for a drive really helps me clear my mind. I also ensure I eat dry fruits as they help my mind become sharp.”
