Traditional touches & disco nights dominate Leela hotel heiress Aishwarya Nair's wedding celebrations

Leela hotel heiress Aishwarya Nair's wedding to longtime boyfriend Nishant Mathew on January 7 in Mumbai had all the traditional touches of a Kerala ceremony. Aishwarya, say guests, looked stunning in a white and gold ensemble for the wedding and reception, while the entire decor was done keeping traditional Malayali wedding aesthetics in mind. "It was an outdoor function. There were elephants, kathakali dancers and men playing the drums at the venue," says one of the guests.

Daughter of Leela group of hotels' Chairman Vivek Nair, Aishwarya is quite the fashionista and so there was a fair blend of both the fashion and corporate worlds at the functions. If the wedding was an elegant affair, the bride and groom let their hair down at a pre-wedding cocktail party the night before. Themed around the legendary New York nightclub Studio 54, it was disco all the way. "In sharp contrast to the traditional touches at the venue, guests who were staying back at the hotel had hangover kits with 'Aish X Nish' written on little white bags, waiting in their rooms," says an attendee.

Spotted at the functions were actresses Sonam Kapoor and Pernia Qureshi, designers Shivan + Narresh and Gaurav Gupta, as well as socialite Ramona Narang. Aishwarya was seen living it up with her sister Amruda and cousin Samyukta Nair at the reception.

A source adds that though the couple was initially keen on a destination wedding, they decided on an elaborate reception at the Leela Mumbai, so that could they accommodate several guests. However, they are apparently planning to continue the post wedding celebrations with around 50 of their closest friends at an undisclosed destination out of India.
