Yash's much-awaited Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-ups has finally arrived in theatres today, August 26, after keeping fans waiting for months. The Kannada gangster action movie marks Yash's first big-screen outing since KGF: Chapter 2 in 2022 and has been among the most eagerly awaited Indian films of the year. The film features a prominent ensemble cast, including Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Tara Sutaria, Rukmini Vasanth and Huma Qureshi.

Reportedly made on a massive budget of Rs 500 crore, Toxic has reached theatres 503 days after its original release date of April 10, 2025. The film faced multiple delays during production, resulting in several changes to its release schedule before the makers finally announced August 26 as the theatrical release date. With fans heading to theatres for the first-day-first-show screenings, early reactions to the film have started pouring in on social media.

Netizens review Yash's Toxic

Yash's return to theatres was always going to be one of the biggest talking points surrounding Toxic, and early reactions suggest that the actor remains a major draw. Several viewers have praised his stylish appearance, introduction and commanding screen presence.

One viewer called Yash's opening moments a strong start to the film, while another described his performance as the kind of larger-than-life spectacle that fans have been waiting for since KGF: Chapter 2. The actor's overall look and the film's presentation have also received appreciation.

However, the reaction to the first half has not been completely positive. Some viewers have described it as slow, messy and tiring, with criticism aimed at the screenplay and the way the story introduces its characters. One social media user felt the film has plenty of style and glamour but lacks emotional depth and a clear narrative.

Another one wrote, "#Toxic - First Half Ultra Stylish Yash & Rich Productions Values r plus. Circus Fight Super. Has Style, Glamour, Violence. But No proper Character Intro, Dialogues, No Emotional Connect. Random Characters and a Clueless screenplay!"

Netizens are not quite happy after watching the second half and wrote, "#TOXIC is a MASSIVE letdown. Yes, it looks stylish. Yes, #Yash does well. But beyond that, there is barely anything to hold the film together. The story hardly moves, the pacing becomes painfully tiring, and the movie tests your patience to the extreme.

Toxic Twitter review: Action and visuals get thumbs up

Where Toxic appears to be winning consistently is in the technical department. Viewers have praised the film's production scale, cinematography and polished visuals. The action sequences, particularly those leading up to the interval, have also found support among fans.

One early review described the first half as packed with violent and stylish action, praising the film for delivering a Hollywood-style visual experience. The same viewer highlighted Yash's screen presence and called his action portions a major attraction.

Not everyone was impressed by the execution, though. Another viewer criticised what they felt was excessive use of computer-generated or motion-controlled action, arguing that some of the sequences appeared artificial. This has resulted in a clear divide among audiences, with some enjoying the spectacle while others finding it overdone.

The interval, too, has received contrasting reactions. While some viewers found it underwhelming, others believe it provides a strong setup for the second half. The mixed response makes the post-interval portions particularly important for the film's overall word-of-mouth.

More about the movie Toxic

The Yash-Kiara Advani combination has emerged as another talking point in the early reactions. Some viewers have specifically praised their scenes together, describing the chemistry and combination as among the more enjoyable parts of the first half.

Music director Ravi Basrur's background score has also divided the audience. While one section of viewers felt the BGM was a letdown, others had the exact opposite reaction. A fan praised Basrur's work as a major highlight and said it added to the excitement surrounding the second half.

The film has clearly impressed viewers with its scale, visuals, action and Yash's screen presence, but its screenplay, pacing and characterisation have come under scrutiny.

Stay tuned to see how it performs at the box office.
