Yash's Toxic OTT streaming deal update
Now, reports about the film’s post-theatrical deal have added another concern for the makers. According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, the digital rights of Toxic are still not officially sold, while the amount being offered by streaming platforms has reportedly fallen considerably.
Toxic OTT release deal reportedly drops to Rs 30 crore
Before the film reached theatres, the Toxic team had reportedly received an OTT offer of around Rs 150 crore from a leading streaming platform. However, the makers were said to be looking for a deal worth more than Rs 200 crore, expecting the film's theatrical performance to increase its digital value.A source cited by Bollywood Hungama said, “The Toxic team had an offer of Rs. 150 crores from a leading platform, but the demand from the team was a lot higher, north of Rs. 200 crores.”
The expectation reportedly changed after the film struggled at the box office. The same source claimed, “The digital players are now offering an amount as low as Rs. 30 crore for the post-theatrical streaming rights for all languages.”
The report has said that ZEE5 is among the platforms linked to the current negotiations. However, there has been no official announcement from the makers confirming an OTT partner or the final value of the deal.
Toxic makers may consider a new cut for OTT release
The reported change in the digital valuation could also lead to a change in the film itself. According to Bollywood Hungama, the makers are considering a separate edit for the streaming release, partly because of the film's adult-oriented storytelling. The source was quoted as saying, “The makers are now contemplating a completely new edit for the digital version, with the hope of fetching a bigger amount than what's on the table.”
The idea, as per the report, is being discussed as one possible way of reducing the losses from the film and making its digital version more appealing to streaming platforms. Nothing has been officially confirmed about a revised OTT cut yet.
Toxic box office collection so far
Toxic opened in theatres on August 26 and recorded a strong start, but the film could not maintain that momentum in the following days. The film reportedly collected around Rs 101.10 crore net in India initially, while Sacnilk has put its India net collection at around Rs 243.40 crore and India gross at Rs 290.50 crore.Another reported figure places the domestic net collection at Rs 245.75 crore by day 12, with the worldwide gross at around Rs 337.80 crore. The varying figures across reports reflect different tracking updates, but the broader picture remains the same: the film has fallen well short of the expectations attached to its reported Rs 500 crore-plus budget.
