Yash's Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups ends on a much darker note than a straightforward father-son revenge story. The Geetu Mohandas directorial, which released in theatres on August 26, follows gangster Raya and his estranged son Ticket, both played by Yash, as their conflict slowly turns into something far more complicated. The climax brings the two face to face in a brutal showdown, but the biggest shock comes after the violence.

The film begins to question whether everything viewers have seen involving Ticket actually happened in the way it was presented. Spoilers ahead for Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups.

Toxic ending explained: What happens to Ticket and Raya?

Raya builds his criminal empire in Goa and later expands it to Macau, but his rise comes at the cost of his family. He leaves Nadia and their newborn son Ticket behind, setting up the revenge that eventually comes back to haunt him.


Ticket returns years later determined to destroy his father's empire. He targets Raya's men and operations and eventually takes on Raya himself. Their final confrontation takes place in a snowy setting, where Ticket repeatedly attacks his father and leaves him badly wounded.

At first, it appears to be the final battle between an angry son and the father who abandoned him. But the film's last stretch changes that understanding.

Is Ticket actually Raya's son?

The major twist is that Ticket is revealed to be part of Raya's fractured mental world. Ticket has been narrating much of the story, making him an unreliable narrator.

The film indicates that Raya had actually killed Ticket years earlier and was unable to save him when the boy changed his mind. After losing Ganga and Nadia as well, Raya is already living with enormous guilt and emotional damage.

This means the Ticket viewers follow through much of the second half may not have been physically present in the way the story initially suggests. He becomes a manifestation of everything Raya has done and everything he cannot escape.

Why does Raya smile at the end?

The final moments are less about confirming who wins and more about showing what Raya has become. Ticket represents his past, his guilt and the violence that has followed him throughout his life.

Raya finally accepts the son he had pushed away, even as the situation around him collapses. The film ends with Raya facing this version of Ticket while an avalanche approaches, before cutting to black.

That also explains why the ending feels deliberately confusing. Raya's psychological state makes it difficult to separate what is real from what exists inside his mind.

Does Raya die in Toxic?

The film does not give a clear answer. Raya is gravely wounded during the final confrontation, but there is no conventional death scene before the screen cuts to black.

The more important question is what happens to Raya psychologically. Whether the final showdown is viewed literally or as part of his fractured reality, Ticket has become the embodiment of the consequences of Raya's choices.

The ending therefore leaves the father-son conflict open to interpretation. Raya may have built an empire by destroying everything around him, but in the end, the greatest thing he has to face is the damage he created himself.
