Top Bollywood actress says she got a big movie because of 'law of attraction'. How did she make it happen?

Today, Vidya Balan is regarded as one of Bollywood's top actresses, with a career spanning nearly two decades and several critically acclaimed performances to her name. However, before becoming a household name, the actress was simply a young admirer of filmmaker Pradeep Sarkar's work. Interestingly, Vidya recently revealed that her journey to her breakthrough film Parineeta may have begun with a wish she quietly carried for years. Looking back, she even wondered if the experience was an example of the "law of attraction" at work.

On October 13, 2025, Vidya took to Instagram and shared a video of herself lip-syncing to the song Seekho Na Naino Ki Bhasha Piya. The actress explained that the melody holds a special place in her heart, not only because she loves the song but also because it played an important role in shaping her career.

Recalling her first encounter with the track, Vidya said she was deeply moved by both the lyrics written by Prasoon Joshi and the way the song had been brought to life on screen. She revealed that she was especially impressed by filmmaker Pradeep Sarkar's storytelling and visual style. According to the actress, watching the song sparked a quiet dream within her, to one day work with the director she admired so much.

How a wish turned into reality for Vidya Balan

At the time, Vidya had no idea that her wish would eventually come true. In her social media post, the actress shared that while she was busy admiring Sarkar's work from afar, circumstances were already beginning to align in unexpected ways.

She recalled that a few years later, she got an opportunity to work with Pradeep Sarkar on an advertisement film. That collaboration opened more doors, leading to appearances in three music videos associated with the filmmaker. During this period, she alsogot the chance to work closely with composer Shantanu Moitra and other members of Sarkar's creative team.



Vidya explained that these projects helped her build a strong professional relationship with the filmmaker and his collaborators. What started as admiration gradually evolved into an opportunity to showcase her talent in front of the very people she looked up to.

"A few years later, I got an ad film with Dada and then as luck would have it,i got to be in 3 of his music videos too…The highlight ofcourse was that i got to work with the same team of @smudgal @moitrashantanu & #Dada on another album called #Kisson ki chaadar written by @niveditajoshi4. Not just that ,this eventually led to me getting launched by Dada in Parineeta.

I don’t know if this qualifies as the ‘Law of Attraction’ but i do know that i’m ever so grateful for this just as i am for so much else in life."

The actress said that the biggest moment came when Pradeep Sarkar eventually cast her in Parineeta. The project would go on to become her Bollywood debut and change the course of her career forever.

The film that launched a star

Released in 2005, Parineeta featured Vidya Balan in the lead role of Lolita opposite Saif Ali Khan, while Sanjay Dutt played another pivotal character. Directed by Pradeep Sarkar and produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra, the film was based on Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay's classic 1914 Bengali novella of the same name.


The film received widespread praise from critics and audiences alike. Vidya's performance, in particular, was celebrated for its maturity and emotional depth, especially considering it was her first Hindi film. The success of Parineeta established her as one of the most promising newcomers in Bollywood.

Reflecting on the chain of events that led her to the film, Vidya said she does not know whether it truly qualifies as the "law of attraction." However, she expressed immense gratitude for how things unfolded. The actress suggested that her admiration for Sarkar's work and her desire to collaborate with him somehow found their way into reality.

Since her debut, Vidya has built an impressive filmography and earned a reputation for choosing strong, performance-driven roles.
