Tom Hanks announces Academy Museum in LA, says it will open in December

Academy Museum to open its doors on December 14.
LOS ANGELES: The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures will open to the public on December 14 this year, veteran Hollywood actor Tom Hanks announced during the Oscar ceremony in the Dolby Theatre. Hanks is museum trustee and co-chair of the Academy Museum campaign with chair Bob Iger and co-chair Annette Bening.
"There is plenty of culture to be found in the City of Angels, but there has never been a museum dedicated to the art and science of motion pictures," Hanks said. Tom Hanks is the trustee and co-chair of the Academy Museum campaign. Academy Museum Director Bill Kramer said in statement, "We cannot wait to welcome the whole world to the Academy Museum. When our doors open on December 14, our thrilling combination of exhibitions, screenings, and public and educational programs will create unparalleled experiences for movie lovers everywhere."
The museum was first announced in 2012. Major construction has been completed on the museum's iconic building, designed by world-renowned architect Renzo Piano and located on Los Angeles's Miracle Mile.

The masterfully devious South Korean dark-comedy took Hollywood's top prize, along with awards for Best Director, Best International Film and Best Screenplay.

In capturing the best director Oscar, Bong beat out a cast of previous winners and film legends that included Martin Scorsese, Quentin Tarantino and Sam Mendes, and he paid tribute to all of them in his acceptance speech.
"When I was in school I studied Martin Scorsese's films. Just to be honoured was a huge honor. I never thought I would win," he said.
"When people in the US were not familiar with my films Quentin always put my films on his list.''
He added he wished he could take a Texas chainsaw and cut the Oscar into five pieces so all the nominees could share it.

Joaquin Phoenix accepted the award for Best Actor for his film ‘Joker’. The actor took the opportunity to talk about a plethora of issues, ranging from gender inequality, racism to the cancel culture.
"We share the same love, the love of film. This form of expression has given me the most extraordinary life," the actor said before launching into an emotional call for Hollywood to "use our voice for the voiceless" and "fight against injustice."

It was Oscar-winning director Steven Spielberg who anchored this year's In Memoriam tribute. In his speech, the 'Saving Private Ryan' director remembered the departed: "Legends and icons. Our friends and fellow artists, all who have inspired and touched us."
