The director duo's last film Belasheshe in 2015 made on an approximate budget of Rs 1.10 crores had collected Rs 4.5 cr at the box office making it the highest grosser of 2015.

KOLKATA: Setting a new record in the Bengali film industry, Nandita Roy and Shiboprosad Mukherjee's Prakton has collected Rs 1 crore in Bengal itself, in the first three days of its release. The film was released on May 28, with the first day collection at the box office being Rs 25 lakhs.

The next three days picked up Rs 50 lakhs and theaters are looking at collecting Rs 2 crores in the first week itself. The film which is one of the first Bengali films to release simultaneously in other cities in India has collected close to Rs 50 lakhs nationally. The film was also released internationally for the Bengali diaspora.

“The first three months of 2015 has been for Tollywood and we are hoping Prakton will set a new trend at the box office,” Arijit Dutta, managing director of Priya Entertainments.

Alongside the director duo’s prowess according to industry experts what worked for the film is the hit pair of Prosenjit Chatterjee and Rituparna Sengupta sharing screen space after 15 long years.

According to the East India Motion Pictures Association in 2015 the Bengali film industry had incurred losses to the tune of Rs 100 crore. This came after the industry recorded Rs 70 crore loss in each of the previous two years.
