After Twitter announced the rollout of the new feature, netizens were quick to compare it to Snapchat and Instagram stories.
Ever since Snapchat stories became popular around the world, several other social media giants, such as Facebook and Instagram, have been experimenting with content that disappears after 24 hours. Twitter is the latest to join the bandwagon. The micro-blogging site on Tuesday launched its much-anticipated ‘Fleets’ feature in India which will allow users to share tweets, photos and videos that will last 24 hours on their profile.

After Twitter announced the rollout of the new feature, netizens were quick to compare it to Snapchat and Instagram stories. Indian Twitter was divided over the feature with some appreciating it and others criticising it.

Manu Kumar Jain, Global VP of Xiaomi and Xiaomi India MD, took to Twitter to share a rather cryptic tweet about the new feature. On the face of it, it looks like the Xiaomi boss is comparing his stint at Jabong with a Fleet and his tenure at Xiaomi India with a tweet. Jain had served as the Managing Director of Jabong from February 2012 to January 2014 and had joined Xiaomi in October 2014.

This Twitter user felt that ‘Fleets’ will help filtering out not-so-relevant content like ‘feeling Monday blues’.

This netizen wasn’t too happy with the fact that he had to click the ‘+’ and then scroll down. ‘Isn’t that boring?’ asked the netizen.

This user wrote, ‘I want to see more tweets and not stories that I can see on Instagram.’

Twitter user ‘Nida’ opined that Twitter is the perfect balance of visuals and words as is. She advised the micro-blogging site to ‘build on its strength’ and not ‘blindly imitate.’

This Twitter user sent out a cheeky tweet, sarcastically writing, ‘Snapchat, here we come!’.

Restaurateur Harjinder Singh Kukreja was all-praise for the new feature.

Some netizens even asked Twitter to roll back the feature.
