Few businessmen let their guard all the way down when on holiday. Taking it as a challenege, perhaps, Ashish Shah, cofounder of Pepperfry, took a month-long break from running the company and disconnect.

Shah took a three-week holiday to Australia with his wife and rounded off the vacation by spending the week leading to the New Year in Mumbai.

“I took this break after six years and was probably one of the few left who had not taken a timeout,” he said.

While Shah enjoyed leisurely walks and a long pending couple’s retreat while on holiday, what he enjoyed the most was being disconnected with decision-making.

“It was a great time to see how things change in office when you are away. Even when I was clearing work emails there, I would not get involved in those which required decisions. This would not have happened if I had gone only on a week-long holiday,” Shah said.
