TikTok star and body positivity activist Megha Thakur passes away at 21, fans pay tribute

TikTok star Megha Thakur who was one of the most formidable advocates of body positivity died “suddenly and unexpectedly” on November 24. She was 21.

The Indian-Canadian influencer who hailed from Brampton Ontario was well-known for promoting body positivity. She often spoke about embracing your body type and about the need for representation of various body shapes and sizes in the media. Thakur who had over 930K followers in TikTok was also known for her dancing clips. Her parents announced the news of her death on her Instagram handle. “It is with heavy hearts we announce the light of our life, our kind, caring, and beautiful daughter, Megha Thakur, suddenly and unexpectedly passed away on November 24, 2022, in the early morning hours," they wrote. According to the Instagram post, Thakur’s funeral was held on November 29. The circumstances of her death are yet unknown. However, some of her fans claim that she died in a freak car crash.
Her parents also paid her a touching tribute. They described the influencer as “a confident and independent young woman.” They also requested her fans to keep her in their prayers. “ Your thoughts and prayers will be with her in her onward journey," they posted.

Thakur had a vibrant fanbase who idolised her for her dancing skills and her empathetic insights on maintaining body positivity. Several of her fans took to social media to mourn the influencer.


“Rest in peace Megha Thakur, you powerful and amazing soul,” wrote a Twitter user.
Another commented, “ I can’t believe Megha Thakur passed away, bro I am in denial right now!”
Some of her followers thanked her for teaching them how to be optimistic and look at the brighter side of life even when she herself was battling mental health issues. “Megha Thakur, a young influencer I followed on ig (Instagram) passed away unexpectedly 5 days ago and it really shook me. She was so young, confident, and full of life. She worked so hard to give other women confidence even when she was going through lows, life is truly unpredictable,” mourned another fan.
