Tigress was old, weak, but had experience as it hunts a huge crocodile with a simple, clever trick, just one bite - rare wildlife battle caught on camera
A remarkable video shows an aged tigress hunting a crocodile. Despite her condition, she used a precise technique to disable the reptile. This rare encounter highlights the power of instinct and experience in wild animals. The footage has captivat...

Dr PM Dhakate, Chief Conservator of Forests, shared the video on X and explained the unusual behaviour captured in the clip. He noted that tigers generally avoid hunting crocodiles because of the high risk of injury. The reptile’s strength, armour-like skin, and powerful death roll make it a dangerous opponent even for a full-grown tiger. However, in this case, the tigress reportedly used a highly specific technique to bring the predator down.
According to Dr Dhakate, the animal targeted “the base of the crocodile’s skull,” a precision move that disrupted the reptile’s ability to defend itself. He explained that such a bite can crush the cervical vertebrae, effectively disabling the nervous system and preventing the crocodile from using its rotational “death roll” defence mechanism.
What stood out most was not just the outcome, but the execution. Dr Dhakate pointed out that the tigress appeared to be in her final days, yet still managed to rely on deeply ingrained hunting instincts and cognitive skills. He described it as evidence that even with age-related decline, big cats retain sharp behavioural memory and refined hunting mechanics.
As he put it, the footage shows how tigers can still “secure dangerous prey despite aging and physical decline,” relying on instinct and experience rather than brute strength alone. The video was originally credited to Rajesh Saini, who captured the rare interaction in the wild. The clip has amassed more than 15,000 views online.

The video quickly sparked reactions online, with viewers expressing amazement at the tigress’s final hunt and asking whether she died due to old age or an injury. Dr PM Dhakate responded that, according to available information, she was suffering from physical ailments. One added that although she appeared thin, she was still strong in her final days. Another user speculated whether the tigress was Arrowhead, suggesting that she may have hunted the crocodile just a couple of weeks before her death. The Economic Times Business News App for the Latest News in Business, Sensex, Stock Market Updates & More.
