The movie stars Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, Lewis Pullman as Sentry, Wyatt Russell as U.S. Agent, David Harbour as Red Guardian, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine. Under Valentina’s leadership, a team of reformed super soldiers, former foes, and morally conflicted figures is brought together to handle what appears to be a global crisis.


As the mission progresses, it becomes clear they are pawns in Valentina’s larger scheme. The plot weaves in characters and storylines from earlier MCU titles, including The Incredible Hulk, Black Widow, and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

Directed by Jake Schreier and produced by Kevin Feige, Thunderbolts was made on a budget of USD 180 million, with cinematography by Andrew Droz Palermo. The marketing campaign highlighted the creative pedigree of its makers, whose credits include acclaimed works like Hereditary, Beef, and Everything Everywhere All at Once.

Florence Pugh expressed her fondness for filming in Atlanta on Instagram ahead of the release, thanking the crew and hinting at “something cool” coming soon for fans.

Reception and Box Office

The film grossed approximately USD 382 million worldwide. While the revenue was modest compared to some MCU hits, it secured an 88% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Critics praised its writing, cast chemistry, and grounded action sequences, noting it as a standout among recent Marvel releases.

Thunderbolts leaves key plot threads open, linking to upcoming projects such as the Disney+ series Ironheart and the feature The Fantastic Four: The First Steps. Cast members are also set to return in Avengers: Doomsday, where they will share the screen with original Avengers, the X-Men, and the Fantastic Four.
