Through Awards And Films, Sridevi’s Rich Legacy Lives On

Three-and-a-half years ago, veteran actress Sridevi's sudden demise left her millions of fans heartbroken.

The late actress, who left behind her 50-year legacy in Bollywood and south Indian film industry, would have celebrated her 57th birth anniversary today.

In the 1980s and 1990s, the off-screen 'Chandni', who made her debut at the age of four with the 1967 Tamil movie 'Kandan Karunai', was also named as one of the highest-paid actors.

Here's a look at all the posthumous awards and other recognition of the 'English Vinglish' star.

Bollywood actress Sridevi won the National Film Award for the best actress category two months after her death in 2018.

She was lauded for her performance in Ravi Udyawar's 'Mom' where she plays the character of an angry mother who avenges her daughter’s rape. The movie was her last film before her trip to Dubai on February 24.

Her family - producer-husband Boney Kapoor and two daughters Janhvi and Khushi - received the award from President Ram Nath Kovind on Sridevi's behalf.

In August 2018, the Information and Broadcasting Ministry organised a special screening of Sridevi's films on her 55th birth anniversary. Celebrating her career of five decades, the movies picked for the screened were considered as some of the finest performances.

While the first movie to screen was 'Mom', other films like 'Lamhe', 'Mr India', 'English Vinglish', 'Sadma' and 'Chandni' were screened at the Films Division Auditorium in New Delhi for two days.

Her family of three attended the screening.

Sridevi earned a special place in the In Memoriam section of the 90th Academy Awards ceremony in 2018.

In 2018, The late Bollywood actress received the TITAN Reginald F Lewis Film Icon Award at the Cannes Film Festival. The award traditionally celebrates women of the film industry all over the world and also salutes the multi-cultural impact on the world of cinema.

Director Subhash Ghai and producer Namrata Goyal accepted the award on behalf of Sridevi's family.

In a special tribute in 2018, singer Raveena Mehta (in pic) wore a Dimple and Amrin dress to honour the late Bollywood icon on the Cannes red carpet.

Last year, on her birth anniversary, Singapore's Madame Tussauds unveiled a wax statue dedicated to Sridevi. The wax figure resembles Sridevi's look from her hit song, 'Hawa Hawai', from the 1987 movie 'Mr India', featuring Anil Kapoor.
